Author Guidelines
Please read these guidelines carefully. Manuscripts that do not follow them will be returned to the authors before review.
Manuscript Types
ISEDU accepts two types of manuscripts within its Focus and Scope:
- Original research articles: empirical studies using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods, or library-based research that presents new findings.
- Review articles: systematic or critical reviews of the literature.
At least 60% of the articles in each issue are original research articles. Both types follow the same structure and review process.
General Requirements
- Manuscripts must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere.
- Manuscripts are written in English or Bahasa Indonesia, in an objective third-person style, and should be proofread before submission.
- Length: 5,000 to 6,000 words, including references.
- Use the ISEDU template (Microsoft Word), which sets the page layout, fonts, and heading styles.
- Submit only through the online system. See Submissions.
Manuscript Structure
- Title: at most 100 characters, in title case.
- Authors: full names without academic titles, affiliation, city, country, email, and ORCID iD. Mark the corresponding author.
- Abstract: 150–200 words in one paragraph, covering the purpose, method, main findings, and contribution, without citations. All manuscripts include an English abstract; manuscripts in Bahasa Indonesia also include an Indonesian abstract (Abstrak).
- Keywords: 3–5 keywords, separated by commas, in each abstract language.
- Introduction: background, literature review, research gap, novelty, and objectives.
- Method: research design, participants or sources, data collection, and analysis.
- Results and Discussion: findings and their interpretation in relation to previous studies, presented in one combined section.
- Conclusion: answer to the research question, implications, and limitations.
- Acknowledgments (optional).
- Declarations: author contributions, funding, conflict of interest, ethical approval for research involving human participants, and use of AI tools.
- References.
Headings are not numbered. Use three levels: Level 1 in CAPITALS and bold; Level 2 in Title Case and bold; Level 3 in Title Case, bold, and italic.
Tables and Figures
Place tables and figures in the text near their first mention, number them consecutively, and cite them in the text. Following APA style, write the number in bold (Table 1) and the title in italics on the next line, above the table or figure. Figures must be clear and legible. Authors must obtain permission to reuse copyrighted images.
Citations and References
- Follow the APA Publication Manual, 7th edition, using a reference manager such as Mendeley or Zotero.
- In-text citations use the author–date format, for example (Halstead, 2004), (Ahmad & Hassan, 2000), (Cartabuke et al., 2019), or (Hodgson, 2002, p. 90) for direct quotations. Do not use footnotes for citations.
- Include at least 20 references, prioritizing journal articles and recent publications. Provide DOIs as links (https://doi.org/...) where available.
- Every source cited in the text must appear in the References, and every entry in the References must be cited in the text.
- Self-citations must be relevant and limited to 10% of the references. Authors are not required to cite articles published in ISEDU.
Qur'an, Hadith, and Arabic Terms
- Cite Qur'anic verses in the text by surah name, surah number, and verse, for example (Al-Baqarah, 2:255). State the translation used in the Method section or in a note, and list it once in the References.
- Cite hadith by collection and number, for example (Sahih al-Bukhari, 6446), and list each collection once in the References.
- Write Arabic terms in italics using one consistent transliteration system throughout the manuscript, for example tawakkul or qana'ah.
After Submission
- Each manuscript is screened by the editor and then reviewed by at least two reviewers. See Peer Review Process.
- Authors revise according to the reviewers' comments and submit a response to each comment within the time set by the editor.
- A Letter of Acceptance is issued only after the manuscript is formally accepted.
- Accepted manuscripts are copyedited and laid out; authors check the final proof before publication.
- Publication fees, if any, are charged only after acceptance. See Author Fees.
