Abstract

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) organised around competency-based, industry-driven curricula has been criticised for narrowing education to employability and neglecting learners’ moral and affective formation. This study examines how daily Shalat Dhuha habituation is institutionalised within the full-day Block System curriculum of the Samsung Tech Institute (STI) industry class at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Weleri, Indonesia, and how school actors and students interpret it. Employing a qualitative embedded single-case design (July 2024–mid-2025), data were generated through semi-structured interviews with the principal, the vice-principal for curriculum and ten students, non-participant observation, and institutional documents, and were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Three themes were constructed. First, temporal scheduling positions the prayer (07.00–07.30) as a threshold ritual before workshop practice without reducing allocated practice hours. Second, students describe ablution and prayer as a preparatory self-regulation routine that helps them settle attention and manage anxiety before demanding micro-electronics tasks. Third, dispositions of muraqabah, itqan and amanah are mobilised as a moral vocabulary for precision and integrity, constituting spiritual capital whose conversion into recognised cultural capital remains conditional. The study proposes a provisional spiritual–technical synergy model and discusses its limits.
